Festival of the first fruit 2018 – God’s blessings

Thanking God by offering him the first fruit of the land (Income from the profession in our current urban setting) is one of the most important commands of the Lord Almighty. It was repeatedly reminded to the Israelites in the Old Testament. King Solomon says in Proverb 3:9 “Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the first fruits of all your crops”. Whenever God’s people gave whole heartedly from their first fruits, blessings flowed abundantly.

Our harvest festival was celebrated on 4th Nov 2018. The theme for this year was “Always and for everything giving thanks in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ to God the father” (Ephesians 5:20).       Rev. Charley Jones (Vicar of The Marthoma Syrian Church, Primrose Road) delivered a meaningful message based on the theme. Our guest of honor Dr. M.C Thomas (Principal, St. Thomas Public School, Indiranagar) graced the occasion with his presence.

After a meaningful service, festivities started at 9:00AM with church members enjoying the breakfast prepared by various members of the church under the leadership of Women’s fellowship. Members enjoyed their favorite delicacies including Kerala’s own kappa, appam, parotta along with other snacks. Auctioneers entertained the crowd by creating a friendly auction competition among members.  Auctions were meticulously planned, and members took active part in the proceedings.  Games stalls organized by youth fellowship had some exciting games to keep the younger crowd busy. “Old is Gold” stall was a must visit for all members.  Face painting, popcorn, cotton candy and ice-cream stalls were a hit with children. Tasty mutton biryani was served for lunch. Overall, it was a lovely experience to watch everyone being involved in unity, fellowship and friendship.

We set an ambitious target for 2018 and with the Lord’s wonderful guidance and mercy, we expect to cross the target. This will enable us to start new programs to glorify the name of our Lord.

All praise be to God. Thanks to all for the prayers and support in making this event a big success. Special thanks to our achens, conveners and members of various sub-committees for their commitment to make the harvest festival memorable.
